What it is

As for what "sustainability" is, we don’t know. This word is constantly hijacked by businesses to present themselves as environmentally-friendly and has become nebulous in its definition. What we do know is that the power of human technology and consumption involves a great level of responsibility for the way we choose to live, and how those choices impact others’ ability to survive. Most of the options offered to the people have severe environmental costs and disregard natural ecological processes, but propagate because they are affordable. This system shows little regard for sustaining natural resources and is headed in a direction that cannot provide a healthy future for our children. One Heart Source refuses to acknowledge this commodification of the environment as an option for pursuing lasting social change.

The Earth is not in peril. Rather it is us who are in danger if we continue to overstep our humble role in this fine balance that every person calls home. Humans do not supercede nature, we are an organic part of the symbiosis that provides the resources we utilize. If we pollute our rivers, it is us who will no longer be able to drink from them. If we corrupt the soil with chemicals, these chemicals will eventually return to our bodies as food. If we pollute the sky, it is us who will breathe its air. Everything is one, and thus when we treat the planet well, we are vicariously treating each other well. For this reason, One Heart Source pursues options that are least harmful to the environment as we continue to develop our site in Tanzania. We ask you to do the same wherever you are, as we work towards a better way together. What a beautiful challenge to us all.
